SILVER CREEK — Mary E. Hawthorne, 87, of Silver Creek, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Bryan LGH-East.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at United Methodist Church in Silver Creek. Interment will be at Silver Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday, all at the church.
Mary E. Hawthorne was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Genoa to Benjamin and Carolyn (Theel) Killham. She grew up in Nance County and graduated from Fullerton High in 1949. She married Merrill T. Hawthorne on Feb. 21, 1949, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived in Fullerton until 1957 when they moved to Silver Creek. Mary worked at B-D for 27 years until her retirement in 1990. She carried The Columbus Telegram and World-Herald for 10 years with her granddaughter and also did in-home health care. She a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.
Mary is survived by her daughter Merlene (Lauren) Burg of Silver Creek, son Mikeal (Vicki) Hawthorne of Central City, daughter Margie Castle of Fremont, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merrill Hawthorne; parents Ben and Carolyn Killham; brothers Duane, Robert, Ray, Allen and Vernon in infancy; and sisters Gertrude Keith and Glennys Bosak.
