LINCOLN -- Marylu Lueke, 65, of Lincoln, passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, after a courageous 4 year, 4 month battle with lung cancer.
Born to Harold and Marcella “Sally” (Long) Bolin on Feb. 21, 1952, in Columbus. She was the second of two daughters, their father farmed east of Albion, and Marylu attended the one room schoolhouse, District 13. They moved to town in 1963 and she graduated from Albion High School in 1970 and immediately enrolled in travel agent school in Denver. Marylu had a passion for travel, and worked as a travel agent for Disney in Orlando, Florida, from 1972-1978. She then moved to California where she worked for United Airlines from 1978-1987. In 1987, she moved to Houston and married Walter J. Lueke.
Marylu has been a Lincoln resident since 1994 where she worked as a corporate travel agent at Travel & Transport, winning many awards and recognitions. She enjoyed watching Nebraska football and volleyball games, listening to The Beatles, attending Paul McCartney concerts, and traveling with her family. Marylu also especially loved her cat, Sunshine. She was a loving mother, wife, and friend and will be remembered for her strength, smile, and her love of gizzards and strawberry shakes.
Marylu is survived by her husband, Walter J. Lueke; children Lillie Lueke and Franklin Lueke; niece Dawn Duffy; sister Carolyn Teifer; aunt Maxine Watkins; cousins from the Watkins and Bolin families; her work family at Travel & Transport and friends Patty Jo Castonguay and Debbie Verity in California. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Marcella Bolin.
A celebration of life will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 5200 R St., Lincoln.
