MONROE — Paul Hartford, 74, of Monroe, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Lincoln.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. Joe Miksch celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery in Columbus, with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Paul was born Nov. 23, 1943, in Enola to Cory and Hattie (Hide) Hartford. He attended school in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1962. On Oct. 4, 1962, Paul entered the U.S. Navy and served during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 21, 1966. Paul returned to Nebraska, and on May 6, 1972, he was united in marriage to Janie Gilsdorf in Lindsay. They moved to Monroe and Paul worked for Cornhusker Public Power in Columbus for 41 years as a mechanic. Paul was an avid NASCAR and Richard Petty fan. He enjoyed going hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and riding his Cushman scooter. Paul also liked to spend time with his grandson, collecting coins, restoring antique toys and going to garage sales.
Paul is survived by his wife Janie Hartford of Monroe; son Brian (Teresa) Hartford of Platte Center; daughter Sarah (Jesse) Sly of Bellevue; and grandson Kaleb Hartford.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Cory and Hattie Hartford; infant sister Judy Hartford; sisters Ruth Zavodsky and Beth Johnson; and brother Vernon Hartford.
