Richard Jasper

MONROE -- Richard "Dick" Jasper, 64, of rural Monroe, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, with Fr. Walter Jong-A-Kiem celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. rosary all at the church. Visitation will continue 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be in St. Joseph/St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to those of the family's choice.

Richard “Dick” Jasper was born Feb. 9, 1954, in Lincoln, to James and Betty (Koch) Jasper. He received his early education in Platte Center and graduated from Lakeview High School, rural Columbus in 1973. Dick was united in marriage to Georgia Hemenway on April 24, 1976, in Neligh. Dick worked at Behlen Manufacturing, was a “millwright,” worked for Lindsay Manufacturing, and Eller Heating & Air, and retired from ADM after 23 years of maintenance work. He then worked for Hemenway Farms part time as a maintenance worker.

Dick loved to go fishing, raccoon and turtle hunting, playing cards, and especially spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren were the twinkle in his eye. As a wrestling lover from high school, Dick started a youth wrestling program in Monroe which he coached for years. He was very creative with working with wood, and made several modifications and additions to the home place. Dick was a kindhearted person, and after meeting him for just a short time, you were brought in as a member of the family.

Dick is survived by wife Georgia Jasper of Monroe; son Richard “DJ” Jasper Jr. of Platte Center; son Jeremy (Carol) Jasper of Shelby; daughter Sandy (Corey) Rieck of Columbus; daughter Katie (significant other Dustin Griesman) Jasper of Columbus; grandchildren Aaron, Carissa, Owen, Devon, Alec, Cyrus and Tessa Jasper; mother Betty Jasper of Platte Center; sister Linda (Mark) Jenny of Columbus; sister Sandy (Randy) Nelson of Monroe; brother Bill (Jill) Jasper of Columbus; brother Dan (Julia) Jasper of Lincoln; mother-in-law Eleanor Hemenway of Neligh; sister-in-law Karen (significant other Dave Lenig) Bonner of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law Patricia Wagner of Belden; sister-in-law Marilyn (Galen) Rader of Brunswick; brother-in-law Rod (significant other Linda Jellinek) Hemenway of Creighton; brother-in-law Alan (Deb) Hemenway of Elgin; brother-in-law Duane Hemenway of Neligh; sister-in-law Beth (Todd) Damme of Neligh and brother-in-law Ed (Anne) Hemenway of Neligh.

Dick was preceded in death by father James Jasper; father-in-law Dennis Hemenway; brothers-in-law Mike Hemenway, Joe Hemenway and Mike Bonner; grandchild Micah Jasper and nephew Christopher Hemenway.
