COLUMBUS — Rita (Honorita) Ann (Widhalm) Micek passed into eternal life on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017.
Rita spent her final years at Prairie Village and final days surrounded by family at Brookestone Acres. She entered her eternal reward on Thanksgiving morning.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. There will be a C.D.A. rosary at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. vigil service Monday at the church. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, also at the church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.
Rita was born on Aug. 4, 1929, to Fred and Belle (Nosal) Widhalm in St. Bernard. Her father passed away when Rita was 3 years old, after which she lived with her grandmother, Anna Nosal, while her mother pursued employment in Omaha. Rita attended grade school in Tarnov and graduated from Humphrey St. Francis High School. Rita and Frank Micek were married on Aug. 8, 1949, at St. Anthony’s Parish. God blessed their union with eight children, Charlotte (Paul) Beran, Anita (Russ) Aguilar, Karen (Dave) Maurstad, Kurt (Chrissy) Micek, Janet (Brian) Kleveland, Gary (Kaye) Micek, Jon (Cindy) Micek and Brian (Jeanne) Micek. Rita was blessed with 22 grandchildren, whom she lovingly prayed for and encouraged in their individual endeavors. Her 35 great-grandchildren brought her much joy as she watched her family grow.
Fellow employees at Gibsons, Jarold Shop, Vishays, Northstar in Columbus and the Beatrice State Home not only respected her work ethic but also found a true friend. Rita’s respect for the dignity of all people was evident in how she cared for her clients. Whether it be her trips to the theater, attending local music events or quick stops at Simon House and garage sales, Rita was never one to sit at home. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and garden, cheering for the Huskers and found much amusement in the annual family reunion. An avid card player, Rita played weekly games with her card circles and family until her final days. We loved her and will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her eight children; sister Joan Belitz; sister-in-law and brother-in-law MaryAnn and Ed Donatelli; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Sherri Micek; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; father- and mother-in-law Barney and Dora Micek; husband; sister Patrice Gurnon; brother Ron Staskiewicz; sisters-in-law Alice Hoff and Carolyn Micek; brothers-in-law Jim Micek, Fr. Sylvester Micek and Chester Micek; grandmother Anna Nosal; special uncle Lonnie Nosal; other aunts and uncles; and step-granddaughter Candace Randall.
Honoring Rita’s wishes, memorials may be directed to St. Anthony Church and School and Columbus Right to Life.
