PLATTE CENTER — Robert "Bob" Schmidt, 79, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2107, at his home in Platte Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center. Interment will be in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery in Platte Center. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, all at the church.
Robert "Bob" Schmidt was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Platte County to Albert and Louella (Beller) Schmidt. He attended Platte County schools and finished his education at Wattsville District 20. Bob started working for the Platte County Highway Department in 1956. On May 20, 1967, Bob was united in marriage to Barbara Jazwick at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center. He worked as a grading crew foreman for 11 years before going to work as the assistant superintendent in 1974. Bob became the highway superintendent in 1979 until retiring in December 1996. Bob enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors, golfing, card playing, bowling, softball and fishing. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the cemetery board, Knights of Columbus and Lions Club, and participated in the annual Platte Center Fourth of July Parade.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Schmidt of Platte Center, brother Ronald (Sharon) Schmidt of Platte Center, sister Judy (Ed) Rosenthal Columbus, brother Jerry Schmidt of Columbus, sister Patti (Stan) Renken of Monroe, brother David (Roxie) Schmidt of Bennett, sister-in-law Mary Schmidt of Columbus, sister-in-law Helen Jazwick of Platte Center, sister-in-law Bonnie Jazwick of Coal Valley, Illinois, sister-in-law Marge (Alan) Classen of East Moline, Illinois, sister-in-law Nancy (Leroy) Arlt of East Moline, Illinois, sister-in-law Dolores Bernt of Columbus, sister-in-law Judy Jazwick of Platte Center, sister-in-law Carol (Bob) Bayer of Howells, brother-in-law Paul (Brenda) Jazwick of Columbus, several nieces and nephews and special friend Reghan Holmberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Louella (Beller) Schmidt, father- and mother-in-law Paul and Helen (Shotkoski) Jazwick, brother Roy Schmidt, sister-in-law Mary Lou Schmidt, brother-in-law Gary Jazwick, sister-in-law Theresa Schmidt and brother-in-law Ernie Schmidt.
