ST. EDWARD — Susan M. Carder, 66, of St. Edward, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in St. Edward. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7 p.m. wake service.

Susan Marie Carder, the daughter of Keith and Agnes (Polzin) Koerber, was born on Jan. 17, 1951, at St. Edward. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. Edward Catholic Church. Susan attended school at St. Edward Public School and graduated in 1969.
On March 7, 1970, Susan was united in marriage to Clair Carder at the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward. The couple lived in St. Edward where Susan worked for Koebers Grocery Store and then later Werts Grocery Store. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at Cloverlodge Care Center. In 1997, Susan and Clair moved to Oceanside, California. Susan volunteered caring for the elderly and helping with the food pantry at St. Mary’s-Star of the Sea Catholic Church. When Susan’s health started failing, they moved back to St. Edward in 2012.
Susan was a member of the St. Edward Catholic Church and St. Mary’s-Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Susan was a wonderful cook and loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She loved to have fun and would often be found at events visiting with people and has several pictures taken with celebrities. Susan was a huge Cubs fan and loved to collect lighthouses.
Susan is survived by her husband Clair of St. Edward; two daughters Jackie (Michael) McCausland of San Antonio, Texas, and Becky (Terry) Micek Bellwood; three grandchildren Murrin McCausland of Omaha and Ty and Jack Micek of Bellwood; sister Virg (Roger) Nelson of Genoa; brothers Dr. Rodney (Cyndy) Koerber of Fremont and Alan (Barbara) Koerber Woodland, California; brother-in-law Gale (Liz) Carder of Albion; sisters-in-law Virginia (Bill) Teter of Omaha and Jody (Will) Gursolley of Shelton, Connecticut; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Keith and Agnes Koerber, brother Jim Koerber, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Neil and Ruth Carder.
