COLUMBUS — William J. “Bill” McKown, 71, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, with a 6 p.m. vigil, and 8:30-10 a.m. Thursday, all at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.
William J. "Bill" McKown was born Oct. 6, 1946, in Fremont. The son of James and Wilma (Hoshor) McKown, Bill graduated from Columbus High School in 1965. He started with Union Pacific Railroad as a machine operator and worked for 37 years. Bill was united in marriage to Jeanette Brock on April 28, 1967, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. He enjoyed swimming, golfing, bowling, working on cars and being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Jeanette McKown of Columbus; daughter Holly (Brian) Shanle of St. Edward; son Bryan (Laura) McKown of Wyndmere, North Dakota; grandchildren Brice Sliva of St. Edward, Shelton (Katie) Shanle of Genoa, Shayla (Justin) Cruise of St. Edward, Shonda Shanle of St. Edward, Bryson McKown of Wyndmere, North Dakota, Braylyn McKown of Wyndmere, North Dakota, Bryella McKown of Wyndmere, North Dakota, and Brylee McKown of Wyndmere, North Dakota; great-grandson Henry Cruise of St. Edward; and sister Jean (Larry) Bosak of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Wilma McKown; in-laws William and Vera Brock; and brother-in-law Edward Christensen.
