COLUMBUS — Sunshine and a slight uptick in the temperature were enough to lure some people outside Thursday to enjoy winter activities.
A few children grabbed their sleds and headed out to Pawnee Park West to have some fun while gliding down a hill.
Temperatures in the mid-20s provided a brief break from the bitter cold this week that dropped the thermometer below zero.
The high is expected to reach around 17 degrees Friday before another cold blast for the holiday weekend.
Highs are forecast around zero for Saturday through Monday with lows ranging from minus 10 to minus 20 degrees and a chance of snow Saturday evening.
On New Year's Eve night, the low could approach the record of minus 22 degrees set in 1974, according to AccuWeather.
Normal high and low temperatures for this time of year are 32 and 14 degrees.
