Tired of going to movies and ballgames? Are you looking for something different to do? The Columbus Arts Council has the answer.
The 2017 Art Crawl is a new event featuring five stops to view artists at work and their finished pieces. It will be Sunday, Oct. 22, from 1-5 p.m. This is an opportunity to discuss the art processes with the artist and purchase original art, if desired.
The five stops include:
The Pottery Place, 2624 23rd St., Columbus. There are seven local potters who have hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery at this location. Different types of clay and glazes are featured using many different processes to create the work.
Columbus Art Gallery, 2504 14th St., lower level of Columbus Public Library. Currently, there is a wonderful exhibit by Nebraska Impact artists with the theme “Skyscape." Lois Smith, a local watercolorist, has a painting in the show. There will be other local artists working in the space to demonstrate art techniques.
Oxbow Rustic Furniture, 348 Road 41, Bellwood, features hand-built wooden furniture by Anthony Rerucha. Anthony and his wife, Brianna, and new baby live on his grandfather’s place, which has a sculpture dedicated to the pioneers who followed the Oxbow Trail. Anthony continues his grandfather’s creative expression.
Barcel Bronze, 304 Road 41, Bellwood, is the workshop of Joslyn Barcel Tate. Joslyn works with metal and a laser cutter to create one-of-a-kind items and signage. She also creates sculptures and has had pieces in national shows.
Art by the Lake, 2 Jarecki Lake, Columbus, is the studio of Amy Tomasevicz, a local artist who creates art with pastels, collage and other media. She will have finished pieces on display and works in progress to explain her techniques.
Refreshments will be served at each stop on the tour. Participants may choose their beginning location, following maps which will be provided, and determine the time spent at each stop. The cost is $25 for members of the Columbus Arts Council, and $30 for non-members. Tickets may be purchased at the Columbus Art Gallery, 1-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, or at each location upon arrival.
Proceeds from the Art Crawl will go toward sponsoring other events at the Columbus Art Gallery. If you have suggestions for events you would like to see occur, or if you have questions, please contact the gallery at 402-563-1016.
