To the Editor:
In response to Sen. Johann's letter regarding defunding Obamacare. This final opportunity to defund Obamacare through the upcoming Continuing Resolution is the only real opportunity we have to get rid of Obamacare before it is implemented Oct. 1. Once implementation begins, it will be nearly impossible to untangle from state statutes. It will fail as planned and as Harry Reid stated it will lead to single payer government ran healthcare. Then we ALL get to suffer under poor quality healthcare.
As for the Senator's concerns regarding a government shutdown. Republicans could offer a CR that fully funds government (except Obamacare) so it doesn't shut down. This could be done easily in the House and it would only take 41 Senators to hold the line. This is very realistic if our reps get on board with the effort. It then leaves the president with the option of choosing between accepting the CR and giving up Obamacare or shutting down the government himself over an extremely unpopular and failed law. Is there a risk that he will choose to shut down the government? Sure there is! But this issue is worth the risk. Don't keep the president off the hot seat. Congress exempted themselves. Please give us a chance by joining Senator Fischer and your colleagues in the defund effort!
