To the Editor:
Thank you for running an article about our upcoming change in vehicle registration renewal mailing procedure. We’ve had several questions, so I’d like the opportunity to clarify a couple of points.
First, after customers receive their renewal notice, the procedure will remain exactly the same. You can pay exactly as you always have. You can come into our office, or you can renew by mail, or you can go to www.clickdmv.ne.gov (extra credit card fee). I’m sorry I didn’t think to address this issue previously.
Second, I’m not firing employees in order to reduce staff. The reduction has been during the past year, and has been through natural attrition, as a result of previous efficiencies and technology updates. I don’t think I mentioned it to the reporter, but with the extra time resulting from the loss of preparing postcards, my office will begin to scan and digitally file records which will reduce the number of file cabinets in our office and in the courthouse halls.
And by the way, our drop box will be installed soon. Once that happens, you can deposit anything that you would normally mail to us. We ask that you use an envelope. With the August 31 Real Estate and Personal Property Tax deadline coming up, that means you can put your payment in our box during the weekend!
Thanks for the opportunity to give this additional information.
