To the editor:
I am writing to ask that the Public Service Commission reject the KXL pipeline that would carry tar sands through the sandhills of Nebraska. The risk of a pipeline leak is too great. Our aquifer is one of the largest in this country and at this time the water is pure. Tar sands would not be able to be completely cleaned up. Also, it would be setting a precedent for a foreign countries to take U.S. land by eminent domain and own it in perpetuity.
It's also a threat to whooping cranes and crosses the historic Trail of Tears area. To date, the Tribal Nations have not been consulted about this pipeline route.
There are many reasons to vote no on this pipeline route through Nebraska, but only one reason for it to go through; money for the oil industry. We would do better developing clean energy in Nebraska. There will be very little local benefit to the pipeline. Please consider wisely.
