Schuyler City Council approved a 2017-18 budget earlier this month with a higher property tax request but essentially the same tax levy.
The city's property tax rate will decrease slightly from 35.3947 cents for every $100 in valuation in 2016-17 to 35.3902 cents for the upcoming fiscal year.
City Clerk Lora Johnson said the council worked to keep the tax rate the same even though the tax request is around $60,000 higher.
The city’s property tax request jumps from $585,800 this fiscal year to $646,602 in 2017-18. That increase comes from higher property valuations within Schuyler.
The total city budget climbs from $18.18 million in 2016-17 to $23.97 next fiscal year.
