By now almost everyone in town should have heard about the wonderful $500,000 donation received by the Schuyler Public Library Foundation last month.

James Sindelar, a former Schuyler resident, has been following the city’s direction for 40-plus years. He attended high school here and decided to give back to the city. What a generous gesture! He will continue observing the city and library happenings as his donation is used for building a new library facility for the community.

At about the same time Pinnacle Bank donated $25,000 to the foundation, also to be used for a new building. Land has been purchased outside of the floodplain and the library foundation is working hard to develop plans for a new facility. A major fundraising campaign is just around the corner.

In the meantime, we continue with our mission to provide access for all community residents to resources for information, learning, inspiration and enjoyment.

We think that we have a great selection of new materials. I’d be surprised if there isn’t something to appeal to almost everyone. The following is a sample:

Adult fiction: “Rogue Lawyer” by John Grisham, “Eve” by William P. Young, “How to Be a Grown-up” by Emma McLaughlin, “Dark Reservations” by John Fortunato, “Earth Bound” by Christine Feehan and “Kingdom of Darkness” by Andy McDermott.

Juvenile titles: “Big Nate: Welcome to My World” by Lincoln Peirce, “What's Great about Nebraska?” by Darice Bailer and “Milet Mini Picture Dictionary” by Sedat Turhan.
