The library’s Brokenicky Room is filled with the sounds of vampires, mummies, Frankenstein and children laughing. It’s Movie Night at Schuyler Public Library and tonight some young patrons and some not-so-young patrons are enjoying a funny/spooky movie with popcorn and lemonade. It is a good time.
Your library sponsors Movie Night on the third Thursday of each month, beginning at 5 p.m. Sometimes the attendance is good (like tonight) and sometimes only a few people attend. There are many things going on in Schuyler each night so choices have to be made. We always appreciate those who find time to attend Movie Night.
For those who cannot fit Movie Night into their schedule we offer a fine selection of movies that can be checked out just like books. Our selection includes recent releases such as “Insurgent,” “American Sniper,” “Into the Woods,” Disney classics, “Charlie Brown,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” documentaries and something for just about everyone.
Like our book collection, we add movies regularly, so if we don’t have the movie you are looking for one week just check back, there is a good chance we will be getting it. If there is a movie release coming out soon that you are sure others would enjoy please let us know so we can add it to our list of movie-must-haves.
Our new selection of toys in the children’s library has been very well received. What pleases me the most is that many of our young patrons are utilizing the construction kits we now have. It is rewarding to watch a youngster start with an assortment of pegs, wheels and sprockets and build a machine, animal or thingamajig from their imagination. No electronic beeping or flashing screen, just a creation from their own minds.
Even with all the advances in computer technology there is no greater tool or machine than the human body and mind. Your library is the perfect place to place to experience the best of both worlds. Come on in!
