Your library was fortunate to host a Database Road Show this past week with area librarians in attendance. Sponsored by the Nebraska Library Commission, the event educated library staff about the newest additions to the NebraskAccess website. The databases are available by logging on to through Schuyler Public Library’s website. The password for Schuyler Public Library may be obtained through a staff member.

Here is a brief description of some of the databases that are available:

Small Business Reference Center, an online database containing information and resources of interest to entrepreneurs, small business owners and other business professionals. All aspects of starting and running a small business are covered.

NoveList Plus, an online readers’ advisory service designed to help answer the question: “What should I read next?”

Points of View Reference Center, an online database containing resources that present multiple sides of an issue. It provides rich content that can help students evaluate and construct persuasive arguments and essays, better understand controversial issues and develop analytical thinking skills. This will be an invaluable resource for students who are working on research papers!

Biography Reference Center offers a comprehensive collection of more than 460,000 full-text biographies. In addition to keyword searches, users can locate biographies of interest by browsing key categories, including occupation, nationality, publication and more.

MyHeritage Library Edition contains genealogy resources with more than 5 billion historical records from 48 countries including census and other government records, historical records and photographs. The search interface is available in 40 languages.

Legal Information Reference Center offers everyday users the necessary tools and detailed “how-to” instructions to independently address a wide range of legal issues including business law, financial planning, family law, property and real estate and rights and disputes.

Consumer Health Complete, an online database that provides convenient access to easily understandable health and medical information. It provides content covering all areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine.

All these databases combine to reinforce the importance of using your library as the source for information in today’s electronic world. The next time you need information remember there is no better place than Schuyler Public Library!
