COLUMBUS — The Schuyler girls golf team concluded its season with a pair of tournaments in Columbus.

The Lady Warriors competed Monday in the B-2 district tournament at Elks Country Club, but failed to qualify any golfers for the state tournament during their first event at the course.

Senior Claire Martin led Schuyler with a round of 121 to close out her career.

“Claire finished the day strong and parred two of the last three holes,” Schuyler head coach Jeff Droge said. “Things just started to really click for her today and she put it all together from tee to green those last few holes. It was fun to watch.”

Jennifer Lopez carded a 134 for Schuyler, Ivana Lopez shot a 141 and Maria Vega finished with a 161.

Schuyler’s 557 team score put the Lady Warriors in seventh place.

Two-time defending state champion Omaha Duchesne ran away with the district title, shooting a team score of 317. The Cardinals had five of the top-six scores at the tournament with Anna Borer, Kristin Goertz and Lauren Goertz tying for the best score with 77s.

Columbus High was runner-up with a 368 team score and Bennington was a distant third, carding a 450 total.

Droge credited his players for maintaining a positive attitude throughout the season and said the three seniors -- Martin, Jennifer Lopez and Vega -- will be missed.

“All three had shining moments scattered over the season and all three were positive role models for our younger players,” he said.

Ivana Lopez, a sophomore, is the lone varsity golfer who will return next season for the Lady Warriors.

“She played varsity toward the end of last season and improved a bunch over her sophomore season,” Droge said. “There’s good things ahead of her if she puts in the time.”

Schuyler also played Friday at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus during the Central Conference Tournament, finishing ninth.

Martin led the Warriors with a 123. Ivana Lopez carded a 130 and Jennifer Lopez shot a 131. Vega rounded out the team score with a 160.

Aurora’s Danica Badura shot a 78 to win the individual title and York took the team title with a 382.
