DAVID CITY — In an early-season battle of unbeaten teams, it was David City Aquinas that improved to 3-0 following Tuesday's home matchup against Howells-Dodge.
The Monarchs let a 26-19 halftime lead slip away as the Jaguars fought back to force overtime. Aquinas outscored Howells-Dodge 5-4 in the extra period to get the 42-41 victory.
Kyle Ruth finished with 13 points and five rebounds for Aquinas, which shot 33 percent from the field and 3 of 16 from behind the 3-point line, and Tyler Vavrina added 11 points. Ruth was 6 for 10 shooting and Vavrina struggled to a 4-for-12 performance.
Connor Blum tossed in a game-high 15 points for Howells-Dodge, which fell to 2-1, and teammate Lane Hegemann chipped in 12.
Aquinas hosts Fremont Bergan on Saturday.

YORK — Jaxon Simons had a career night Tuesday to lead Central Community College to a 104-79 home win over York College's junior varsity team.
The CCC freshman set new career highs with 24 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 9 for 19 from the field.
Malik Mooving added 23 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Raiders, who led 45-38 at halftime then ran away with the game in the second half. Zack Rice-Gordon flirted with a triple-double for Central, scoring eight points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Central (6-7) plays Highland Community College on Friday during the Southeast Community College Holiday Classic in Beatrice.
CLARKSON — Clarkson/Leigh got run out of its home gym Tuesday by Oakland-Craig.
The Knights (1-2) took a 19-9 lead after the first quarter and never slowed down in a 73-35 road victory.
Garrison Dodge, one of three double-figure scorers for Oakland-Craig, led the team with 16 points. Kobe Benne and Wyatt Seagren followed with 15 points each.
Daniel Beller paced Clarkson/Leigh with 15 points and Anthony Bruhn finished with nine points.
The Patriots (0-3) play Thursday at Winside.

GENOA — Home-court advantage hasn't been working in Twin River's favor so far this season.
The Titans fell to 0-3 following Tuesday's 57-32 loss to Lutheran High Northeast, with all three defeats coming in Genoa against unbeaten teams.
Twin River held a 16-15 lead after the first quarter and trailed just 29-23 at halftime before going ice-cold in the third period, when the Titans were outscored 17-0.
Lutheran High's Jaxson Kant exploded for 28 points in the road victory. Matt Becker and Blake Freudenburg added seven points apiece for the Eagles (3-0), who knocked down five 3-pointers, including four from Kant, and 8 of 12 free throws.
Lutheran High shot 59 percent from the field.
Twin River also had five 3-pointers, with Brandon Miller burying two on his way to a team-leading eight points. Joseph Zwiener finished with seven points for the Titans, who play Saturday at Tekamah-Herman.
