DAVID CITY — There was no letdown for David City Aquinas after winning last weekend's David City Holiday Tournament.
The Monarchs, 8-2 and a ratings contender in Class C-1, followed that performance with a 44-35 home victory Tuesday over Pierce (3-7).
Aquinas didn't shoot particularly well, going 13 for 40 from the floor, but more than half of the team's field goals were from 3-point range as the Monarchs hit seven treys. They were also 11 for 16 at the free-throw line.
Telegram Super Senior Tyler Vavrina scored 16 points to pace Aquinas, which held leads of 21-20 at halftime and 34-27 after three quarters. Vavrina shot just 3 of 17, but every make was from long range and he finished 7 for 8 at the charity stripe.
Daniel Stara added eight points, including two 3-pointers, for Aquinas.
The Monarchs, who have won five straight games, host Schuyler on Thursday.
