KEARNEY -- The Columbus High swimming teams placed in 14 events Saturday at the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference meet in Kearney.
Both the boys and girls teams finished fifth at the meet. The girls scored 155 points and the boys finished with 148 points.
Norfolk swept the team titles with the girls scoring 321 points and the boys scoring 284 points.
Both Chase Andresen and Emily Miksch placed in all four of their events for the Discoverers. Andresen won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.45 seconds for Columbus’ only victory of the meet. He was also third in the 100 butterfly in 56.58 seconds, then helped out a couple of the relay teams. Andresen, along with Jayven Krepel, Konner Kudron and Said Mendez were fourth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 49.72 seconds. Andresen, Mendez, Kudron and Hunter Hall were third in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:32.69.
Like Andresen, Miksch placed in both of her individual events as well as two relays. The sophomore was third in the 50 freestyle in 26.2 seconds and sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.5. She helped the Discoverers to a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.96 along with Callan Fuchser, Stefani Padilla and Julia Salerno. Miksch, Salerno, Mia Janssen and Kaira Dallman were fourth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.91 seconds.
Hall came up with a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.06 and Kudron was fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.73.
Maddisen Schulz placed in three events for Columbus. She was sixth in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke with times of 5:56.4 and 1:10.04, respectively. She also was on the 400 freestyle relay team that finished sixth in 4:07.24 along with Macy Blaser, Natalia Salazar and Dallman.
Krepel, Gabe Moseman, Josue Mendez and Alec Flyr also finished sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:55.92.
The Discoverers now prepare for the state meet beginning on Feb. 22
