HUMPHREY -- A pair of freshman led Class D-2, No. 2 Humphrey St. Francis to a 78-58 win over Elkhorn Valley on Friday.
Alissa Kosch scored a team-high 18 points while Allison Weidner had 14 points, 11 assists, four rebounds and four steals.
Telegram Super Senior Logan Wemhoff had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Bridget McPhillips added 14 points.
Elkhorn Valley (16-6) hung around with the Flyers (21-2) for most of the game. St. Francis led 18-17 after the first quarter and 33-28 at halftime. It was 53-48 after three quarters before the Flyers pulled away over the final eight minutes.
St. Francis opens the D2-3 subdistrict tournament on Tuesday against St. Edward.
High Plains 21
BRUNING -- Class D-1, No. 1 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley blew out High Plains 61-21 on Friday.
It was a mismatch from the start as the Eagles led 15-8 after the first quarter and 27-17 at halftime. B-D/S blew the game open in the third quarter, going up 48-20.
Cara Demers and Sydney Strobel score six points each for the Storm (6-14).
High Plains plays in the D1-7 subdistrict tournament this week.
Shelby-Rising City 45,
OSCEOLA -- Shelby-Rising City relied on its defense Friday to pick up a 45-19 road win over Osceola, keeping the Bulldogs (0-21) winless in the process.
The Huskies (8-13) overcame a slow first half to pull away.
Osceola led 8-3 after the first quarter, but S-RC pitched a shutout in the second quarter to go up 10-8 at half. The Huskies got in rhythm the rest of the way, scoring 35 points after the intermission. It was 28-12 after three quarters.
Kamryn Pokorney led S-RC with 12 points.
Osceola did not submit stats.
The Huskies compete in the C2-7 subdistrict tournament this week and the Bulldogs compete in the D2-2 subdistrict tournament.
Spalding Academy 53,
St. Edward 36
ST. EDWARD -- St. Edward lost its 14th straight game Friday, losing 53-36 at home to Spalding Academy (7-12).
The Beavers (1-19) trailed 15-11 after the first quarter and 26-20 at half. It was 38-28 after three quarters.
Shonda Shanle led St. Edward with 18 points.
The Beavers play Class D-2, No. 2 Humphrey St. Francis on Tuesday in the D2-3 subdistrict tournament.
Cross County 49
STROMSBURG -- Cross County had a chance to upset Class D-2, No. 3 Exeter-Milligan on Friday, but the Timberwolves (19-5) were able to hold off the Cougars (11-11) for a 60-49 victory.
It was 41-38 going to the final quarter where Exeter-Milligan outscored Cross County 19-11.
The Timberwolves led 14-13 after the first quarter and 31-26 at the half.
Maddie Portwine scored 20 points to lead the Cougars. Kate Jomsky and Hannah Beethe paced E-M with 24 and 19 points, respectively.
Cross County plays Centennial on Tuesday in the C2-7 subdistrict tournament.
