HUMPHREY — In a battle of ranked teams, Class D-2, No. 3 Humphrey St. Francis’ senior-freshman combo of Logan Wemhoff and Allison Weidner was too much for Class D-1, No. 6 Clarkson/Leigh.

The pair combined for 34 points Friday to lead the Flyers (13-2) to a 55-47 home win over the Patriots (9-4).

Wemhoff, a Telegram Super Senior, finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Weidner added 15 points.

The Flyers got off to a strong start, leading 12-4 after the first quarter. Clarkson/Leigh got its offense going in the next eight minutes, scoring 15 second-quarter points to cut St. Francis’ lead to 23-19 at halftime.

St. Francis also started the second half strong and opened a double-digit lead, 39-29, after three quarters.

Clarkson/Leigh, which plays Tuesday at Elgin Public/Pope John, did not submit stats for the game.

The Flyers play next in the Goldenrod Conference Tournament, which began Saturday and runs through Jan. 20.

H/LHF 61,

Clearwater/Orchard 22

HUMPHREY — Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family pitched a fourth-quarter shutout Friday to put an emphatic stamp on a 61-22 blowout of Clearwater/Orchard (4-10).

The Bulldogs (13-2), ranked No. 8 in Class D-1, led 15-10 after the first quarter and 30-16 at halftime on their home court. The lead grew to 43-22 after three quarters before H/LHF outscored the Cyclones 18-0 in the fourth quarter.

Allanah Beller knocked down four 3-pointers and led the Bulldogs with 16 points while Brittney Veik added 14. Taya Beller was limited to just two points but still grabbed 11 rebounds to go with three steals and three blocks.

H/LHF hosts Madison on Thursday.

Shelby-Rising City 62,

Nebraska Lutheran 47

WACO — With starting point guard Emily Neujahr hurt, Shelby-Rising City turned to its post players in Saturday's 62-47 road win over Nebraska Lutheran.

Telegram Super Senior Sydnie Adams scored 27 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and sophomore Kamryn Pokorney added 18 points and 11 boards.

The Huskies (5-9) got out to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter and were up 33-22 at halftime. S-RC put the game away in the third quarter, extending its advantage to 53-35 going into the final period.

S-RC hosts David City on Tuesday.

Shelby-Rising City 35,

Hampton 31

SHELBY — After a low-scoring first half, Shelby-Rising City held on for a 35-31 home win Friday over Hampton.

The teams combined to score just 17 points in the first half. S-RC (4-9) held Hampton (4-9) scoreless in the first quarter, but only scored four points itself.

The Huskies were up 10-7 at halftime before the offenses started to show up. S-RC led 21-17 entering the final quarter.

Telegram Super Senior Sydnie Adams scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Huskies. Kamryn Pokorney finished with eight points and 10 rebounds and Emily Neujahr added eight points.
