GRAND ISLAND — The Columbus High swimming team had to adjust on the fly Thursday in a dual at Grand Island.
Used to swimming in a 25-yard pool, the Discoverers competed in a 25-meter pool during the event, a difference of more than 7 feet.
The Columbus boys were edged by the slimmest possible margin, falling 84-83, while the Discoverer girls lost to the Islanders 105-64.
The Discoverers won five events, with the boys taking three.
Chase Andresen won the 50-meter freestyle in 25.89 seconds, followed by teammate Hunter Hall in 26.83 seconds. Gabe Moseman won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 18.49 seconds. The boys also claimed the 200 medley relay in 1:59.97.
Julia Salerno won the 50 freestyle in 30.51 seconds and Morgan Johansen claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:29.66 for the CHS girls.
The Discoverers have a home dual Tuesday against Lincoln Pius X.
