Nebraska's Antoine Lloyd was named the Big Ten indoor track athlete of the year by the conference’s head coaches.
Lloyd was the Big Ten indoor champion in the 60-meter hurdles this season for the first time in his career with a finals time of 7.68 seconds.
He topped that by finished second in the in the 60 hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a school-record time of :07.60. The finish gave Lloyd first-team All-America honors in the event for the first time in his career. He finished second only to Florida's Grant Holloway, the NCAA record holder in the 60 hurdles, who won the event for the second straight year with a time of :07.47.
Lloyd is the first Husker men's athlete to be named a Big Ten track or field athlete of the year since the Huskers joined the conference in 2011-12.
Reifeis nabs Big Ten weekly honor: Nebraska's Claire Reifeis picked up Big Ten women's tennis athlete of the week honors.
Reifeis, a sophomore, had clinching wins at both singles and doubles to help the Huskers knock off No. 19 Ohio State. Her match-clinching 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-2 win over Ohio State’s No. 61 Shiori Fukuda at No. 2 singles won the match and Reifeis also teamed with Hayley Haakenstad for a 7-6 (8) win at No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point.
Nebraska (12-2, 1-0 Big Ten) rose nine spots to No. 21 in the ITA national rankings and hosts Michigan State on Friday and Michigan on Sunday this week.
Huskers sending two to women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships: Nebraska will send two competitors to the NCAA National Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Abi Knapton returns to nationals to compete on the platform dive for a second straight year after a first-team All-America freshman season that saw her finish fourth in the event last year.
Husker freshman Autumn Haebig qualified in the 100-yard backstroke thanks to her performance at the Mizzou NCAA Qualifier. Haebig competes in the 100 backstroke trials Thursday, with finals on Friday. Knapton will compete in platform diving on Saturday.
The championships run Wednesday through Saturday.
