Area players named to all-conference team
Several area athletes were named to the All-Crossroads Conference teams.
Cross County's Colton Beebe was a first-team selection for the boys and the only area player named to the first-team for either boys or girls.
Shelby-Rising City's Austin Coffin and East Butler's Trevor Havlovic and Jaden Rhynalds were second-team selections. High Plains' Keaton Van Housen and Osceola's Caden Theis were honorable mention selections for the boys.
On the girls' side, Shelby-Rising City's Sydnie Adams, a Telegram Super Senior, and Cross County's Maddie Portwine were second-team selections. High Plains' Madie Young, Cross County's Lexi Eller and Shelby-Rising City's Emily Neujahr were honorable mention selections.
Viking Venture scheduled
COLUMBUS -- The sixth annual Viking Venture is scheduled for April 28 at Lakeview High School.
The event will feature three different distances. There will be 10- and 5-kilometer races that begin on the track at the high school and weave their way through Loup Park and Lake North Park. There will also be a fun run that will go around the track.
There will be seven age divisions ranging from 14 and under to 60 and over and the top three finishers in each age group for males and females will receive medals. The top three overall finishers for both males and females will also receive an award.
The cost for the 5- and 10-kilometer races is 25 dollars and the fun run is 20 dollars. Money raised will go toward providing scholarships for students and other educational activities within the school district.

Lakeview hosting youth football camp
COLUMBUS -- Lakeview High School will be holding its 18th annual Viking football camp from June 18-21.
The camp will be at the Lakeview practice fields starting each day at 9:30 a.m. and running until 11 a.m.
The camp is for area youth entering third through eighth grades.
Kids will work on individual drills as well as a team drills within their age group.
The cost of the camp is 35 dollars and each camper will get a shirt.

Scotus hosting banquet to honor basketball team
COLUMBUS -- There will be a banquet on Tuesday to honor the Scotus girls basketball team for winning the Class C-1 state title. The banquet will be at 7 p.m. at the VFW. The meal will be a two-meat buffet for 15 dollars. Reservations are required. Columbus Area Bison tryout scheduled
COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Area All-Star Bison basketball team tryout will be held on Sunday, March 18 at Columbus High School.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for registration and the tryout begins at 7:00 p.m. The tryout is open to all area eighth- and ninth-grade boys. Players selected to the Columbus Area Bison team will participate in the annual Nebraska Bison Freshman state tournament over Memorial Day weekend in Lincoln.
