Athletes compete in powerlifting meet
OMAHA -- A pair of athletes from Columbus High competed at the first ever raw state powerlifting meet at Creighton Prep on Saturday.
Raw powerlifting differs from regular powerlifting in that athletes aren't allowed to use any sort of equipment that aids their ability, such as a weightlifting belt.
Brandi Brummer, competing in the 97-pound class, brought home a bronze medal at the event. Brummer set three personal records, lifting weights of 130 pounds on the squat, 65 pounds on bench press and 135 pounds on deadlift, giving her a total of 330 pounds.
Lexi Hajek won the silver medal at the 148-pound division. Hajek set new personal bests in all four categories with a 250-pound squat, 115-pound bench and a 270-pound deadlift for a 635-pound total.
