This week we feature the only ladies' afternoon league in Columbus.
The Cheers League bowls at 1 p.m. every Thursday at Westbrook Lanes. This three-person, seven-team league bowls 32 weeks with the winners of each half meeting in the finals. The Champagne Gals have already punched their ticket to the finals by winning the first half. Jane Largis, Suzann Klutman, Enola Luchsinger and Karen Bulkley make up the Champagne Gals.
Prior to league play on Jan. 4, the Bahama Mamas sat in first place with a 7-1 record. Connie Talbott, Sharon Becker, Barb Sanderson and Karen Elsasser form the Bahama Mamas. Amaretto holds the high team game and a high series with a 534 and a 1,500. Amaretto is made up of Donna Christensen, Jo Tonini, Christel Effa, Sue Brewster and Jan Schaad. On the individual side, Jeri Ainsworth has the high series and average with a 598 and a 160. The high game belongs to Bulkley with a 235.
During league play on Jan. 4, the Long Island Ice Tea rolled the high team game and series for the afternoon with a 458 and a 1,281. Holly Anderson, Diane Rowe and Sonya Wemhoff bowled for Long Island Ice Tea. Anderson tossed both the high game and series for the afternoon with a 189 and a 500. Her high game was 33 pins above average.
All three members of the Baileys team rolled games at least 30 pins over their averages. Edith Davis led the way with her 156 game, which was 39 pins over. Next was Phyllis Groteluschen, who was 35 pins above with a 76 game. Finally, 33 pins to the good was Jackie Rivera with a 133. Diane Langan finds some print for picking up the 7-9-10 split. Nice bowling to one and all.
