Labor Day weekend was a good time to get out and catch fish. Again, Lake North was producing good numbers of all species of fish including crappie, white bass, drum, walleyes and catfish.

All types of baits have been working. Sonar lures have also been working well.

Sauger and catfish have been caught below the powerhouse near Columbus. Twister tails and stink baits are working well.

Juan Mejia  was fishing at the Genoa headgates and landed a 15-pound channel catfish on shad.

On Sept. 16, Tony Scheffler is having another catfish tournament. Check-in is from 3-5 p.m. and there is a rules meeting at 5:30 p.m. The whole canal system is included from the headworks to the tailrace. If you have questions, contact Tony Scheffler at 308-550-1586.

Dan Kneifel is manager of Geno’s Minno Mart in Columbus. His column on fishing and other outdoor activities will appear weekly during the fishing season.
