Area golfers competing in tournaments
OMAHA -- Columbus resident Mike Krumland and Humphrey St. Francis graduate Trevor Kosch are each competing in a Nebraska Golf Association tournament in the coming weeks.
Krumland will participate in the 45th Nebraska Cup on Friday at Norfolk Country Club. Krumland will compete as an amateur in the event, which pits the state's top golf professionals against the best amateur golfers.
Kosch will compete in the Kansas-Nebraska Junior Cup on Aug. 7 and 8 at Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell.
This annual tournament has the best junior golfers from Nebraska and Kansas face off in three different styles of play.
It is Kosch's third time representing Team Nebraska in the event, also playing on the team in 2014 and 2016.
Club holding punt, pass and kick competition
COLUMBUS -- Kids will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills Aug. 26 when the Columbus Noon Optimist Club hosts its punt, pass and kick competition.
The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 6 to 15 as of Dec. 31, 2017.
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the competition starts a half hour later. The event will be held at Bradshaw Park. A parent or legal guardian signature is required for participation.
Participants must wear gym shoes. Cleats, turf shoes and football shoes are not allowed.
The top finishers at the local competition will advance to the sectional event in Lincoln.

CHS schedules parents' meeting
COLUMBUS -- Columbus High will host its 2017 fall sports parents' meeting 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the new CHS concert hall.
All parents who have students participating in cross country, football, girls golf, softball, boys tennis and volleyball are encouraged to attend. Activities director Dave Hiebner will have a short address, followed by comments from the CHS booster club and athletic trainer Rob Marshall.
Parents will then go to team meetings with their sport-specific coaches.

Scotus hosting golf scramble
COLUMBUS -- Scotus Central Catholic is hosting its Green Ball Scramble golf tournament Aug. 12 at Elks Country Club.
The cost is $95 per person and competitors will compete in teams of four. The registration fee includes green fees for 18 holes, hole prizes, flight prizes, two drink tickets, cart fee, a steak dinner at the Fall Kickoff Stag on Aug. 15 and a Shamrock Club Membership for the 2017-18 school year. Those wishing to just compete in the golf tournament may register for $60 per person.
Registration is limited to 24 teams.

COLUMBUS -- Results from the Pawnee Ringers Horseshoe Club league play from July 27 are:
Ringers Plus 16.5-10.5, Duncan Drozd 21-6, The Lucky Ringers 17.5-9.5, The Merrick County Boys 14-13, The Double Ringers 11.5-15.5, The Flying Flippers 5-22, The Spitfires 11-16, The Nobodys 11.5-15.5.
Don Branting led the league with a ringer percentage of 56 percent, high game of 102 points and high handicap game of 165 points.
River Run scheduled
BELLWOOD — The Bellwood Daze River Run will be held 8 a.m. Saturday.
The event features a half-mile kids' run for ages 11 and younger and 2- and 6-mile races. Entry fees are $10 for the kids' run and $20 for the 2- and 6-mile races.
Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Bellwood. Proceeds from the race will be used for upgrades to the Bellwood ballfields.

Lakeview holding golf tourney
COLUMBUS -- The second annual Richard "Dick" Kamm memorial golf tournament, sponsored by the Lakeview Education Foundation, will be held Aug. 20 at Elks Country Club.
The four-person scramble will have a noon shotgun start.
Participation is limited to the first 23 paid teams. Entry fees are $60 per person, or $240 per team. The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, cart, flag prizes, meal and auction.

Club holding golf tourney
The Platte Valley Cattlemen are holding their annual golf tournament Aug. 14 at Club 91 Golf Course in Leigh and Steepleview Golf Course in Humphrey.
The first 22 four-person teams entered will play at Club 91. All other teams will play at Steepleview.
The tournament, which features a scramble format, will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Steepleview and 2 p.m. start at Club 91.
Cost is $50 per person and includes nine holes of golf, cart rental and a steak dinner after the tournament.

Cross County holding fundraiser
STROMSBURG -- Cross County Community Schools is holding a Cash for Camps fundraiser Aug. 18 aimed at helping offset the cost of team camps for parents.
The school will host a meal immediately following the sports scrimmages on the date, around 6:30 p.m. A ticket for the steak meal costs $25 while a burger meal ticket is $15.
There will be silent and live auctions as well as a golf cart raffle. Sean Callahan from HuskerOnline.com will be the guest speaker. Speaker-only tickets are available.
Bank hosting tennis tourney
YORK -- Cornerstone Bank will host its 35th annual non-sanctioned tennis tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Levitt Tennis Courts next to York High School.
Entries will be limited to one single and one double. The matches will be the best of three sets with a 12-point tiebreaker at 6-all. There will be a super tiebreaker if sets are split in lieu of a third set.
Registration forms are available at any Cornerstone Bank or on the bank’s website at www.cornerstoneconnect.com. The entry deadline is noon today. Singles entry fee is $15 per division and doubles entry fee is $20 per team.
