FootGolf kickoff event scheduled
COLUMBUS — The city of Columbus and Columbus Area Sports and Activities Council will host a FootGolf kickoff event 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at Van Berg Golf Course.
During the event people of all ages can play FootGolf for $5 per round. Participants may use their own No. 5 soccer ball or rent one at the clubhouse for $3. Free food will be available during the event. Players under age 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

St. Anthony hosting Husker party
COLUMBUS -- St. Anthony Catholic Church is hosting the 11th annual Big Red Party on Sept. 9 when Nebraska plays Oregon.
Tickets cost $25 and there will be a cash drawing and prizes raffled off after each score. There will also be a silent auction featuring Husker items. Proceeds will go toward the youth mission, Bible school, JC Camp and seminarian fund.

COLUMBUS — Results from the Pawnee Ringers Horseshoe Club league play from Aug. 10 are:
Ringers Plus 25-20, Duncan Drozd 33-12, The Lucky Ringers 25-20, The Merrick County Boys 25-20, The Double Ringers 21-24, The Flying Flippers 14-31, The Spitfires 18-27, The Nobodys 26-19.
Don Branting led the league with a ringer percentage of 66 percent and high game of 116 points. Allen Stenzel scored the high handicap game with 168 points.
CMS schedules first practices
COLUMBUS -- The first volleyball practice for seventh- and eighth-grade students will be 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the new Columbus Middle School. Seventh-graders will practice in the north auxiliary gym and eighth-graders will be in the main gym.
The first football practice for eighth-graders will be 5:30-7 p.m. today at the new middle school. Seventh-grade football practice starts 6-7:30 p.m. Monday.
Schedules for all practices will be distributed at the first practice. All athletes must complete a sports physical.
CHS hosting fun run
COLUMBUS — The Columbus Public Schools Foundation is hosting a fundraiser fun run.
The 5-kilometer race is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Sept. 9 at the new high school.
There is a $25 registration fee if registered by Aug. 25. The fee goes up to $30 after Aug. 25 through race day.
The fee includes food and drinks after the race. T-shirts will be given to everyone registered before Aug. 25 and on a first-come, first-served basis after that.
There will be a kids' fun run Sept. 8 at Pawnee Park's Memorial Stadium prior to the Columbus High home football game. The cost is $10 per child and includes a T-shirt if preregistered. The first 50 kids who register on race day will also get a T-shirt.
The first wave of the 400-meter run will begin at 5:30 p.m., but kids should be lined up outside the north side of the stadium by 5:15 p.m.
