Gotschall named to all-conference team

COLUMBUS -- Telegram Super Senior Mallory Gotschall was named to the All-Central Conference first team.

Gotschall finished with 515 digs in her senior season at Lakeview, giving her a school-record 1,291 for her career.

Lakeview's Britney Stock, Brooklyn Wilke, Ali Janssen and Abby Kapels were all named honorable mention all-conference.

Schuyler's Rachel Shonka, Maria Semerad, Kameryn Healy, Kinzie Petersen and Anna Rocheford also earned honorable mention honors.

Area soccer players earn conference honors

CRETE -- Lakeview graduate Bailey Sloup and Schuyler graduate Daniel Maganda earned women's and men's honorable mention All-Great Plains Athletic Conference honors, respectively.

Sloup, a freshman at Doane University, had a goal and four assists, finishing third on the team with six points.

Maganda, a senior at Doane, led the Tigers with nine goals and five assists.

Shanle rewarded for academics

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Garrit Shanle, a junior at Morningside College, is maintaining his academic excellence off the field.

The Scotus Central Catholic graduate has a 3.73 cumulative GPA while majoring in science teaching, earning him a spot on the academic all-district team.

Elks lodge schedules Hoop Shoot

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Elks Lodge 1195 has scheduled its annual Hoop Shoot free-throw contest for Dec. 3 in the north gym at Columbus Middle School.

Registration begins at 1 p.m. with all girls' divisions beginning competition at 2 p.m. Boys' divisions will begin competing at 3 p.m. Both boys and girls will be separated into three age groups: 8- and 9-year-olds, 10- and 11-year-olds and 12- and 13-year-olds. Age as of April 1, 2018, will be used to determine their age group.

Medals will be awarded to the top-three finishers in each age group. Winners will be eligible to compete in the sectional competition with a chance to advance to state, regional and national competitions.
