Grisham earns conference honor
WAYNE -- Columbus High graduate Rachel Grisham was recently named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference goalkeeper of the week.
Grisham posted back-to-back shutouts for the Wildcats in a 1-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Oct. 27 and 0-0 draw against Sioux Falls. She made 10 saves combined in the two wins and was the only keeper in the conference to post two shutouts that week.
Area players on all-district team
COLUMBUS -- Area players dominated the C1-6 all-district football team.
Eight players from Boone Central/Newman Grove, six from Lakeview and four from Scotus Central Catholic earned first-team honors.
The eight from BC/NG are: quarterback and Telegram Super Senior Dylan Gentrup, running back Levi Krueger, wide receiver Cody Nelson, tight end Will Frey, offensive lineman Jon Merten and defensive linemen Michael Murcek, Caden Ranslem and Jesse Sullivan.
Lakeview's first-team players are: running back Jacob Frenzen, offensive lineman Cody Thompson, defensive lineman Brook Behlen, linebacker Nolan Viergutz and defensive backs Isaac Dreifurst and Brock Foltz.
Players selected from Scotus are: tight end Matt Strecker, offensive lineman and Telegram Super Senior Wren Allen, linebacker Eric Mustard and defensive back Tyler Palmer.
Fourteen players from those schools were honorable mention all-district including Brendan Beierman, Garrett Cornwell, Ethan Dozler, Trey Schafer and Matt Schmitz from BC/NG; Cameron Drozd, Cadge Janssen, Elijah Mohlman, Jacob Sprunk and Camden Wilke from Lakeview; and Zack Beiermann, Braden Labenz, Jake Novicki and Grant Shanle from Scotus.
Columbus Soccer Club results
The following are results for four Columbus Soccer Club teams:
The Columbus Magic 14s girls team won a home tournament Oct. 14-15 then took second the following weekend at a tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The Columbus Lightning White 11s girls won their first two games of the season before losing in the semifinals Oct. 14-15 at the Columbus Harvest Cup.
The Columbus Lightning Blue 10s girls went 3-1 at the Harvest Cup to win their age division. The Blues avenged a 7-0 loss to Papillion Elite with a 3-2 shootout win in the championship game.
The Columbus Chaos 11s boys went 4-0 to win their age division at the Socctoberfest tournament Oct. 27 in La Vista. The Chaos outscored teams 21-7 in winning the tournament.
CHS schedules parents meeting
COLUMBUS -- Columbus High School will hold its winter sports parents meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the concert hall.
All parents who have students participating in basketball, wrestling or swimming and diving are encouraged to attend. This includes parents of Scotus Central Catholic students who are planning to swim at CHS. Students are welcome to attend, but not required.
Activities Director Dave Hiebner will have a short address, followed by comments from the CHS Booster Club and athletic trainer Rob Marshall. Parents will then go to meetings with their sport-specific coaches.
Stewart makes all-conference team
NORFOLK -- Northeast Community College sophomore Macy Stewart, a Shelby-Rising City graduate, earned second-team all-conference honors in volleyball from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
