Twin River's Otto to run in college
GENOA -- Twin River senior Donovan Otto signed a letter of intent Monday to compete in cross country and track and field for Midland University in Fremont.
“Don is a great kid. He is an exceptionally hard worker,” Twin River head cross country coach Jeff Morris said. “Midland got themselves a good addition to their program.”
Otto’s senior season in cross country was interrupted by a leg injury he sustained while in basic training for the Army.
“It bothered him for a good chunk of the season, on and off, but he never stopped pushing himself. He had hopes of doing better in meets, but this was out of his control,” Morris said. “He will do good things at Midland, so the best is yet to come for Don.”
Otto, a four-year letter winner in cross country, is a three-sport athlete at Twin River, also competing in wrestling and track and field.
Otto, who plans to major in criminology, said in talking with the Midland coaches, the training they do and what he did in high school cross country are very similar.
“Coach Morris pushed us and had expectations, they will do the same thing at Midland,” Otto said. “The practices are very similar, so I feel like I am prepared to go to Midland and do the best I can. I know what to expect. I want to letter and do everything I can to help the team be successful.”
