Firefighter/EMT/Hazardous Materials Technician Fire Department, Columbus, NE The City of Columbus, Nebraska, is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/EMT/Hazardous Materials Technician with Civil Service testing taking place on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent. College level course work in fire science, fire admin or related field is desirable. Any combination of education, training and experience which produces the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position. Required to pass security background check, physical exam and required immunizations. Responsible for responding to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, technical rescue and other calls to protect life and property; to participate in fire prevention and training, and to maintain the fire station and firefighting equipment. This is a Civil Service position and requires a competitive written and physical test which will take place on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. at the Columbus Fire Station, 4630 Howard Blvd., Columbus Nebraska. A practice of the physical agility test will be scheduled on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 and Tuesday, November 17, 2020 from 1-5p.m. each date at the Training Tower, 1601 Bill Babka Drive, Columbus Nebraska for the applicants that want to practice the physical test. A Civil Service interview for passing score candidates will take place on a later date to be announced.
