The City of Columbus has a current job opening and
is accepting applications for the position of a fulltime
Communications Specialist (911 Dispatcher) at the
Joint Communication Center. This will be a night shift
position, will work every other weekend and
some holidays.
The position is responsible for technical work
receiving and dispatching emergency service calls
on an assigned shift. A critical requirement of this
class is receiving calls for emergency service and
dispatching emergency service units on a regular
basis. Work involves operating an emergency service
console receiving and dispatching calls for emergency
services including police, fire, and medical services.
An employee is also responsible for monitoring a
variety of emergency broadcast and information
services. Work is performed under general supervision
from the Lead Communications Specialist. The
employee exercises some independent judgment in
dispatching appropriate units to the scene. Must be
able to pass a typing test of 35WPM.
Pay Range is $17.15 – $23.19 per hour and offers a
competitive benefit package.
