The Aquinas wrestling team placed second in the Aquinas Invitational on Saturday.
Broken Bow ran away with the team results, netting seven gold medals and 264 points. The Monarchs were a solid second with 214 points, three golds and 12 medalists.
Leading the Monarchs with gold medals were Kyle Petree, 160 pounds, Michael Coufal, 170, and Joseph Reimers 182, led the Monarchs.
Shelby Rising City’s Mason Schleis took first at 138 pounds.
Kyle Petree took first at 160 pounds with a pin of Lathan Duda of Broken bow in 1:56. Petree (19-2) picked up three pins on the way to the finals, with the longest match going a minute and forty seconds.
Michael Coufal received recorded a pin and a major decision before he won a 16-4 decision over Calvin Caneva of Lincoln Christian in the finals.
Joseph Reimers was first at 182 pounds with 20-2 technical fall of Ronnie Albertson of Fort Calhoun. He had two other tech falls on the way to the finals and kept his record undefeated at 18-0.
Sam Wisnieski (16-5) was second at 195, losing by pin at 1:40 to Logan Schluckebier of Lincoln Christian. Wisnieski won two matches by pin to get to the finals.
Anthony Buresh lost by pin to Treyvon Brooks of Broken Bow to place second at 220. He had pinned Grant Ohnemus of S-RC in the quarter finals.
At 106 pounds, Zach Zitek placed second, losing a 7-3 decision in the finals to Broken Bow’s Trey Garey. Zitek, (17-2) picked up two pins on his way to the finals.
Owen Schram defeated Seth Conrad of Fort Calhoun to place third at 285 pounds.
Ben Kment was third at 152, defeating Twin River’s Trey Fehringer by technical fall, 17-0. Noah Scott placed fourth at 113, wrestling his way back to the third place match where he lost at 6-2 decision to William Lomax of Boys Town.
Lance Dybdal (14-10) was fourth at 126, losing by pin in 2:38 to Wyatt Smyrda of Norfolk Catholic.
At 138 pounds, Nolan Eller pinned teammate Logan Helgoth in the third place match. Helgoth lost to S-RC’s Mason Schleis in the semifinal.
