The Aquinas wrestling team finished second at the Duane Carlson Invitational at Logan View on Saturday.
The Monarchs scored 174.5 points to edge third place North Bend, 162. Lakeview won the team title with 197 points. Logan View was fourth with 112 points.
Fifth-ranked Zach Zitek and top-ranked Joseph Reimers brought home individual titles for Aquinas.
Zitek (10-1) won three straight matches by pin before taking a 9-4 decision over Syracuse’s Spencer Bridgmon in the 106-pound final.
Reimers cruised through the bracket at 182 pounds, winning all three matches by technical fall to move to 10-0 on the season. He earned 26-11 and 22-7 victories before handing third-ranked Dalton Mueller of North Bend his first loss. Reimers won that match 15-0 in the second period.
Three more Aquinas wrestlers reached the finals.
Top-ranked Michael Coufal won two matches by pin at 170 pounds before losing a close 3-2 decision to second-ranked Joel Hines of North Bend in the championship.
At 195 pounds, Sam Wisnieski pinned his first two opponents before taking an 8-7 loss against Scotus’ Allen in the final.
Anthony Buresh, the Monarchs’ 220-pounder, started with two pins and a 6-2 decision before he was pinned by North Bend’s Ray in the first-place match.
Noah Scott went 4-1 with four pins to take third at 113 pounds. His only loss, a 6-4 sudden victory, came in the semifinals against Fort Calhoun’s Tyler Curtis, who won the title while improving to 11-0.
Petree finished fourth at 160 pounds with a 2-2 record. He pinned teammates Maguire and Kindler in the first period and lost to Lakeview’s Frenzen and Omaha Northwest’s Franklin.
