East Butler’s wrestlers learned more about where they stand against more competition after placing seventh in the Osceola Invitational on Saturday.
“It was a good measuring stick for where we are and where we need to get,” East Butler coach Doug Glasshoff said. “Ryley, Dalton and Brandon continue to lead our team. Dalton had a tough bracket today and had a solid performance this early in the season. I felt as a team we did a better job of being aggressive on the mat this weekend."
The competition will pick up this week.
"We need to improve on finishing moves and taking advantage what our opponents give us. We will need to have a good week of practice this week and get ready for some tough competition at the Wahoo Invite next Saturday," Glasshoff said.
Ryley Spats, (11-0) brought home the gold at 145 pounds. He pinned three opponents in under two minutes and finished with a 11-1 major decision over Fillmore Central’s Christian Lovan.
In his first action of the season, Dalton Bohac was third at 152, picking up a couple of pins before losing 5-2 to Connor Donscheski of Palmer, a loss by pin to Darren Stewart of Elkhorn Valley. He closed with a pin of Matthew Van Pelt of Southwest in 25 seconds.
Brandon Rezac (8-1) had his first setback of the year, pinned by Anthony Starr of Southwest in the fifth round. He pinned three wins by fall, all under a minute.
At 106 pounds, Michael Polivka (3-8) pinned Brandon Christian (0:24) of Southern in the seventh place match. Cody Heise went 2-2 at 132 pounds.
