East Butler state qualifiers

East Butler sent four wrestlers to state competition. From left, Colten Ratkovec, Ryley Spatz, Dalton Bohac and Brandon Rezac.

The East Butler Wrestling team made the most of its limited numbers, placing third in the District D-3 meet at Elm Creek and sending four of its six wrestlers on to the NSAA State Wrestling Championships begin on Thursday at the Century Link Center in Omaha.

The Tigers scored 92.5 points to place third behind Pender, 102.5, and  and Elm Creek, 99.

Coach Doug Glasshoff was pleased with his team's performance.

"We had two district champions and two runners-up," he said. "There was some tough competition today and I felt that we stepped up to the level that we needed to."

"Dalton Bohac won his 150th career match this weekend and went on to place first. He had a good weekend. Colten continues to wrestle well and I hope that continues through next week at state. He was able to avenge a previous loss in the finals and set himself up for next weekend."

The Tigers were close to getting four golds.

"Brandon Rezac and Ryley Spatz were district runner ups and had a nice tournament, but just fell short in the finals match. I am proud of the accomplishments of all those who qualified for the state meet, which is always a great reward for the hard work throughout the season.

The Tigers’ Dalton Bohac, 145 pounds, and Colton Ratkovec, 160, won gold to lead the team. Ryley Spatz was second at 138 pounds, as was Brandon Rezac at 195.

Bohac (35-6) won a technical fall over James Polen (27-11) of North Central. He pinned two opponents to get to the finals.

Ratkovec (32-14) won a 15-7 major decision over Brady Oliver (40-4 ) of Pender. He recorded three pins on his path to the finals.

Spatz (45-4) lost a 6-5 decision to Seth Simants (40-7) of Stapleton. He picked up two pins on his way to the finals.

Rezac (39-5) fell short of giving Preston Walker (43-0) of Elm Creek his first defeat, but Walker got the pin at 5:00. Rezach pinned two opponents, with the longest match over at 1:09.
