The East Butler wrestling team finished fifth in the Fillmore Central Holiday Invite on Saturday at Geneva.

York won in dominating fashion, scoring 197.5 points, followed by Oakland-Craig, which edged Palmer. Doniphan-Trumbull was fourth.  The Tigers scored 94 points, finishing ahead of Fillmore Central and Bishop Neumann.

“We did a fair job of competing today,” East Butler coach Doug Glasshoff said. “It’s a tough tournament, coming back from the five days off for Christmas, having two practices, then competing is challenging for those that are watching their weight.”

All five of the Tigers placed.

“Our kids did a good job of staying focused and winning some key matches when we needed them,” Glasshoff said. “We seemed a little more focused and ready to go today, after a sluggish start in December, I think this was a good way to move in a positive direction moving forward. We were 20-4 overall on the day. I hope we can keep this momentum going into the next half of the season.”

Ryley Spatz (18-1) took gold at 138 pounds with a 5-2 decision over Harrison Gocke of York. Spatz recorded four pins on his way to the finals.

Brandon Rezac, (12-3) 195 pounds, won a 5-1 decision over Ryley Dillon of Palmyra to take first place. He achieved two first-period pins before a 7-0 decision over Meridan’s Micah Noel to reach the finals.

Dalton Bohac (9-5) 152 pounds, pinned Oakland-Craig’s Jarron Mettler at 3:24 to take third place. He lost a 3-2 decision to Palmer’s Connor Donscheski in the semifinals.

Colten Ratkovec, (10-5) 160 pounds, placed third with a 44-second pin of Remington Gay of Palmer. Palmer’s Spencher Wichmann pinned Ratkovec in the semi finals at 4:47.

Cody Heis (5 -7) placed fifth at 126 pounds with a 4:04 pin of Gavin Saxton of Oakland-Craig. He made it back to the 5th place match with two pins, including a 4:37 fall over Nate Streeter-Meyers of York in the consolation semi finals.

The Tigers were set for the Cross County/Osceola at the High Plains Triangular in Polk on Tuesday.
