COLUMBUS — Zach Tate and Marc Scheer are setting their sights on attracting what they refer to as the “blue-collar, average man’’ who wants to buy a firearm that carries an affordable price tag to their new gun shop along 23rd Street.

Gunslingers, located at 915 23rd St., Suite 600, in the Clock Tower Court shopping center, boasts an inventory of pistols, shotguns and rifles from a list of well-known names in the gun manufacturing industry, including Winchester, Springfield, Ruger, Remington and Smith & Wesson.

“We’ve got the whole spectrum of affordable guns,” said Tate, adding that there are also some pricier weapons on the shelves and others are just a two-day order away from arriving at the shop for a customer to pick up.

“When people buy a gun, they want to touch it and feel it,” said Tate, noting that all the firearms on display are collected in the evening and stored in the business' three large safes for security reasons.

Tate and Scheer are indulging a longtime passion with the opening of Gunslingers, starting the gun shop while also keeping their regular jobs.

“This is a passion for us and one we thoroughly enjoy,” Tate said.

The men upgraded the 1,200-square-foot shop with security equipment before opening.

Scheer, a U.S. Army veteran and former law enforcement and corrections officer, maintains a local trucking business. Tate is a truck driver, plumber and diesel mechanic.

Tate and Scheer, who are planning a grand opening sometime in December, man the gun shop from 1-8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturdays.

The partners are waiting for their exterior sign to arrive, which should draw the eyes of passing motorists along the busy roadway fronting their shop.

Gunslingers is also showcasing Scheer’s skills as a full-service, in-house gunsmith, available for customers’ repair and maintenance needs.

“I’m certified to work on just about all popular gun industry brands,” Scheer said. “I can fix most anything.”

Tate said the business stresses customer service.

“We want to provide the best service we can to people who already know about (firearms) and teach other customers to understand the importance of proper care and maintenance,” he said.

Gunslingers offers custom components for AR-15 builds and upgrades, quality reloaded ammunition of popular commercial calibers and exotic calibers by special orders, bulk ammunition, optics and sights. The business also buys, sells, trades and consigns used guns.

Other accessories available include hunter safety and survivalist gear, rifle bags, holsters, belts and other firearm-related items.

Tate and Scheer, along with Nebraska-based Freedom Concealed Carry, also offer hunter safety and concealed-carry training.

The business can be reached at 402-910-0419.
