Union Pacific Corp. said Wednesday that it plans to spend $65 million on capital projects in Nebraska this year. That's up slightly from the $57 million it spent in 2017.

The Omaha-based company said nearly $55 million will be spent on maintaining track in the state. Key projects include $16.3 million to replace more than 110,500 railroad ties on the rail line between Grand Island and Fremont; $10.7 million to replace nearly 85,000 ties on the line between Burns, Wyoming, and Lodgepole; and $5 million to update track welds on the line between Lewellen and Sutherland.
