The David City High School National Honor Society chapter recently completed its annual Scare Away Hunger Campaign on Oct. 31.

The group was able to raise $179 and 234 non-perishable food items for the local Rural Food Connections to help those in need during the holiday season. This were 30 additional food items collected this year and the total dollars collected nearly doubled from last.

Also on Halloween, a costume contest was held at the school. Funniest Costume went to Maya Couch who dressed as a inflatable car guy. Most Creative Costume was a three-way tie between Jaley Schultz, who dressed up as the Puppy Snapchat filter; Zach Bongersk, who dressed up as Cousin Eddie from "National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation" and math teacher Sam Schlautman, who dressed up as a Dunkin Donut.

Best Duo/Group went to Madison Soukup and Sidney Soukup, who dressed as Chucky and the Bride of Chucky; and also Pam Schmid, Betty Betzen and Brenda Siffring, who dressed as the witches from the film "Hocus Pocus."

Best Dressed Faculty Member went to art teacher Tessa Vrbicky, who dressed as artist Frida Kahlo. And Best Overall Costume went to Madison and Sidney Soukup, and also Brenna Windedahl, who dressed as Pennywise from the movie "It."
