Growing up in Brainard, Ross Benes always wanted to write a book, but he had a few other twists to navigate before then. He graduated from East Butler High School in 2008.
“I was always doing creative stuff. I made two cds and two dvds in high school that I sold to kids all around the county,” he said, after the story broke about his recently published book, “The Sex Effect: Baring Our Complicated Relationship with Sex."
“My hopes and dreams back then were more toward being a comic like George Carlin. But in college I got a lot more into my studies and I saw how difficult and depressing comedy life was. So this is my in-between comedy and rock and regular business job,” he said. “In college the book thing rose as a pipedream, and it also became clear that it would be more feasible, so that's where I'm at.”
Benes’ parents are Ron and Sue, they live in Brainard. Brother Kellen Benes lives in David City and sister Tammy Semrad lives near Abie. Brother Troy lives in Omaha.
