Kicking off the first of three musical events in Brainard this summer will be the North Bend Area Community Band, which will perform at 7:30 Saturday, June 15, in the city park. The event is open to the public and free.
Alissa Hummel and Amber Cooper, East Butler graduates, play with the band in its return visit. The band also performed in Brainard last summer.
“We are happy to have the North Bend Area Community Band back to kick off the summer concert season in Brainard,” said officers of the sponsoring Brainard Community Club (BCC).
The band plays patriotic and big band music, marches and Broadway selections. About 30 play in the band from high school to senior citizens.
The band was organized in 1987 to play a concert in the North Bend city park to help raise funds for the North Bend Central (NBC) band that was planning a trip to Florida. “We had so much fun playing together we decided to continue to play together,” said Carol Bohling, president of the community band. The group has been in continuous existence since then.
Evening in the Park
The second local event is set for Saturday, July 6, when Evening in the Park will once again feature local talent. Anyone interested in performing should contact one of the BCC officers: Denise Robeson, Lynn Hummel, Annette Snyder or Debbie Behne.
Mark Vyhlidal Trio
The Mark Vyhlidal Trio will perform at the city park on Saturday, Aug. 10. The group will include Mark Vyhlidal, his son Jake on accordion and a third musicial member.
All three concerts are free to the public with all invited and encouraged to attend. “Bring a lawn chair and come out for all three concerts,” organizers said.
