Open houses planned at five hospitals
Nebraska Organ Recovery, along with partner hospitals throughout Nebraska, will celebrate the generosity of Nebraska’s organ and tissue donors during five open houses this holiday season.
Donor family members, friends, caregivers, recipients and anyone touched by donation are invited to attend the open houses which will take place at five Nebraska hospitals. Guests will have the opportunity to decorate an ornament which will be placed on a special donor remembrance tree. Refreshments will also be served.
The event dates and locations are as follows:
*Monday, Dec. 4, 6-7:30 p.m.: Mary Lanning Healthcare - Hastings
* Wednesday, Dec. 6, 6-7:30 p.m.: CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Mercy - Omaha
*Tuesday, Dec. 12, 6-7:30 p.m.: CHI Health St. Elizabeth - Lincoln
* Thursday, Dec. 14, 6-7:30 p.m.: Children’s Hospital & Medical Center - Omaha
* Monday, Dec. 18, 6-7:30 p.m.: Regional West Medical Center – Scottsbluff

Since 1977, more than 4200 individuals have donated organs and tissues in Nebraska. Over 4,500 organs have been transplanted—and thousands of lives enhanced—because of these donors’ and their families’ generosity. There are currently more than 116,000 people in the United states, including 450 in Nebraska, waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
About Nebraska Organ Recovery
Nebraska Organ Recovery is the federally-designated organ procurement organization (OPO) for Nebraska and Pottawattamie County in Iowa. Formed in 1977, Nebraska Organ Recovery is responsible for the evaluation, recovery, preservation, coordination, and distribution of all organs as well as the recovery of bone, tendon, heart valves, and connective tissue for transplantation. Nebraska Organ Recovery also provides public and professional education regarding donation and maintains the Donor Registry of Nebraska.
