Butler County Volleyball: David City, S-RC, East Butler earn wins.


Shelby/Rising City def. Hampton, 25-17, 25-19, 26-24: After winning its season opener against Madison, Shelby-Rising City lost six straight before defeating Hampton on Sept. 17. 

The Huskies won in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-19 and 26-24. 

"We have played some very good, fundamentally sound teams and through that we have both learned and gained insight of priorities that we as a team need to develop more of," S-RC head coach Makenzie Kuhnel said in comments. "The victory helped build some more confidence individually and as a team. It also helped show that what we are taking from each game we play and what we do in practice to get ready for the upcoming games. It pushes us to the next level to compete against the next opponent." 

Kamryn Pokorney led the Huskies in kills with 14. She also served three aces and tallied four blocks, both of which were team highs. 

Clare Kohl served two aces and Jayce Vrbka tallied another for S-RC.  

Kohl also recorded 27 digs and 26 serve receptions to lead the team. 

Maddie Hopwood led the team in assists with 21. 

David City def. Sandy Creek, 25-23, 26-24: David City defeated Sandy Creek on Saturday during the Sandy Creek Invite. No Stats were available. 

East Butler def. Nebraska Lutheran, 25-17, 25-17: During the Cross County Invite on Saturday, East Butler went 2-2 defeating Nebraska Lutheran and Osceola. 

"It was great to get a couple of wins this weekend," East Butler head coach Karmen Widick said. "The girls have been working hard in practice, and they needed to be rewarded with something tangible. We continued to play really good defense and improved our offense.

"We know we can't rely on the other teams' mistakes if we want to get wins. When we are able to get swings, good things happen for us. We aren't where we want to be with consistency, but, as a coach, I see the little improvements we make with each match and am looking forward to the rest of the season." 

During the match against Nebraska Lutheran, Lexi Haney led the Tigers with 10 kills. 

East Butler def. Osceola, 28-26, 21-25, 25-8 

Raymond Central def. East Butler, 25-18, 25-12:  In the first match of a triangular at Yutan, East Butler lost to Raymond Central after only recording five kills as a team. Lexi Haney and Allie Rigatuso led with two each. 

Addie Sullivan served three aces and recorded three assists, Haney tallied five digs and Sullivan and Rigatuso led in serve receptions with eight apiece.  

Yutan def. East Butler, 25-16, 25-14: After losing to Raymond Central, East Butler lost to Yutan dropping its record to 1-10. 

The Tigers only managed nine kills and were led by Haney with three. 

Sullivan tallied seven digs, Kailyn Hummel finished with four assists, and Katie Haney recorded 11 serve receptions all for team highs.

"We did not practice well on Monday and did not play very well in either match," East Butler head coach Karmen Widick said in comments. "We will make some really great plays and then we will have a mental letdown."
