Clayton Denker just loves to compete. It’s what’s immediately on his mind when he gets out of bed in the morning. Doing what it takes to become his best, and make others their best as well, is his reward for hard work.
“My parents always preach to me, and my coaches always preach to me, showing respect to others, giving it your all and living without excuses,” Denker says. “It’s about treating others the way you want to be treated. I try to live by that every day.”
Maximizing those opportunities are perhaps more in the front of Denker’s focus as he prepares for one last year as a Scout. For him, it’s always been about the process, win or lose. But leaving David City as the class that broke through would be a nice legacy to leave behind.
“I’m trying to be more of a leader this year. Being a senior, I have more opportunities to be a role model,” Denker says. “We’re trying to change the culture around David City and make it better every day. Last year was our best season in a while. Now, with getting new coaches and a new head coach, I think we’re making the right steps to changing our culture and changing the traditions of our football team.”
