FOOTBALL

Record: 3-6

Postseason Summary: Lost to Exeter-Milligan/Friend, 60-24 in the first round of the state playoffs.

Season Highlight: Defeating Osceola/High Plains, 54-42. Osceola/High Plains came into the game 3-3.

How it ended: EMF’s Edwin Baptista ran for 258 yards on 35 carries to knock off East Butler in the first round of the playoffs.

Standout/Star: Jaden Rhynalds

Future Outlook: The Tigers showed steady improvement in 2018 and will hope five 2019 seniors will be able to help the team reach its goals.

VOLLEYBALL

Record: 11-19

Postseason Summary: Lost to Centennial in the first round of the sub-district playoffs in three straight sets, losing 25-16, 15-16 and 25-13.

Season Highlight: Going on a three game win streak, defeating Parkview Christian, Cedar Bluffs and Omaha Nation from Oct 4-9.

How it ended: Centennial’s Katie Hirschfeld had 19 kills against East Butler which proved to be too much to overcome.

Standout/Star: Jadyn Robley

Future Outlook: The Tigers lose four seniors including their top three attacking leaders. East Butler will need to find some players to fill key roles to have success on the court in 2019.

CROSS COUNTRY

Record: N/A

Postseason Summary: Amanda Aerts qualified for the state meet. After failing to finish one race at the state track meet five months earlier, withdrawing from another and learning of a stress fracture, Aerts nonetheless made her way back to Kearney.  

Season Highlight: Aerts competing in the Cross Country state championships after placing seventh at the district meet.  

How it ended: Amanda Aerts placed 23rd at state after running a 21:36.

Standout/Star: Amanda Aerts

Future Outlook: Aerts will be coming back for her senior year and will be hoping to get back to the state meet while the rest of the Tigers will be hoping to improve on last year.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Record: 12-13

Postseason Summary: Lost to Cross County 39-37 in the first round of the sub-district playoffs.

Season Highlight: Taking third in the Crossroads Conference Tournament.

How it ended: An early 10-3 run gave Cross County a lead that it maintained throughout the game though East Butler found itself down just 26-25 after three. The Cougars held off the Tigers thanks in large part to a 41-23 advantage on the glass.

Standout/Star: Amanda Aerts

Future Outlook: East Butler returns its leading scorer in Amanda Aerts and will hope to build off of major progress made last year.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Record: 10-14

Postseason Summary: Defeated Cedar Bluffs 60-20 in the first round of the sub-district playoffs before falling 86-34 to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, which went on to win the state title.

Season Highlight: East Butler defeated Cross County on Feb. 5, 52-49 in a game in which Jaden Rhynalds scored 34 points.

How it ended: Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family had 64 points by halftime and was too much for the Tigers to overcome.

Standout/Star: Jaden Rhynalds

Future Outlook: There were no seniors on last years team, so the entire East Butler roster returns and hopes to build off of the momentum it started last year.

WRESTLING

Record: 5-6 in Duals

Postseason Summary: East Butler sent five wrestlers to the state tournament, where all five went 0-2.

Season Highlight: Qualifying nearly a half dozen to Omaha.

How it ended: Brayden Brecka was the closes to winning a match at state, losing 2-0 in the consolation round.

Standout/Star: Breckin Ratkovec

Future Outlook: East Butler loses three wrestlers, Cody Heise, Breckin Ratkovec and Colten Ratkovec, but hopes that the returning wrestlers will be able to build upon what they did last year. Josh Spatz, Trevin Brecka and Michael Polivka will all be returning state qualifiers.
